This time of year the weather gets wonderful. The morning air is crisp, sometimes a refreshing breeze blows, and we open our windows and turn off the air. This coming change of the seasons is a welcome time – a time of refreshing. If we never stepped out doors in the morning or evening, or never struggled with the old windows and tugged them open we would really miss out on this blessing from the Lord. To step out the door on a cool morning or evening is downright invigorating!
I wonder what spiritual invigoration is missed when we don’t do the things necessary to catch God’s breeze of spiritual blessing. We wish, “That window of the Word, if only it would open itself and waft its nourishing winds into my soul.” “The effects of that would be prayer, if only the Lord would take up what he knows I ought to pray, and just bless with a gust of His grace.” “The co-worker or neighbor who is not saved, if only God would gale the gospel winds winsomely their way, I’d be ok…and off the hook.” If —-only….
We and countless others miss blessings when we just don’t obey those simple thus says the Lords. And the Lord does say…
1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.”
1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” and Matthew 28:19a “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”
Let us be “as a spiritual house…a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ,” (1 peter 2:5). Let us open the window of the Word, pray the blessings of God’s graces into effect on our behalf and for others, and go with the gospel to our neighbor in love. Thereby, let us throw open Heaven’s windows, walk into the reinvigorating air of God presence, and know the refreshing blessings of the Lord. Obedience brings blessings.
